It’s official folks, the UR1 music festival has been CANCELLED. The reason, poor ticket sales.
Is miami not ready for a different kind of music festival? Were the prices too high? Was the local support not there? Or was it the fact that such a diverse lineup didn’t bring the crowd to buy the tickets?
Official announcement from the festival organizers said to come out this afternoon.
Update 4:12pm
According to the announcement from UR1 Festival, the festival has NOT been cancelled. It has rather been postponed. The reason for postponing the event being “Forseeable inclement weather” and “continued effects of the recent Hurricane Sandy”…What does this mean? How exactly do they predict the weather weeks in advance? and how exactly does a hurricane that hit the north east coast weeks ago affect Miami today? Its no secret that ticket sales have been going slow to be optimistic. So why not be upfront about the status of the festival or why not cancel it outright rather than extend it to cancel it in the future. Its been months of heavy promotion. If they didn’t sell before, they won’t sell now. Perhaps better pricing and a more focused lineup would be some small steps to making this festival an event everyone in Florida would travel to attend. For a festival this size, you’re going to need more than the local miami scene to fill it up. We shall wait and see what further updates the post.
